Compared to some of the other books I've read from this publisher, (one of the handful of publishers driving the "bizarro" label), this is actually pretty cohesive. Unlike many of the authors in this genre, Gina Rinalli doesn't waste time and effort trying to prove her "bizarro" credentials, instead the focus is fully on the story. A dystopian novella, set in an American society where overpopulation has left motherhood all but illegal, and brand new mothers earn themselves a government sponsored jolly good punch in the face - the book raises some interesting points to consider without overtly favouring any one point of view. I can actually see this story as fodder for high school english courses. Once again, the editor should be shot - A story about "women" should at least have the word correctly spelled on the second page. The subject isn't entirely original, it is reminiscent of Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" - but it does provide some fresh food for thought.
