Chew, Vol. 1: Taster's Choice - Rob Guillory, John Layman At last! This is the first "real" comic series I've thoroughly enjoyed. I've tried a few others but, despite often liking the artwork, I just haven't found enough depth to be satisfied until now. I really appreciate the structure of this series - nice tidy chapters with prologues and "Meet The Characters" sections, unobtrusive background puns, teasers and exposition in just the right quantities and places. The narrative unfolds in a logical way without being completely linear. Best of all, there's a warm sense of humour throughout and characters you can really care about. There's a great little section at the back which gives the translation for a conversation in Russian (going back to Chapter 4) which hints at the next story arc and pretty much guarantees that I'll be continuing on to the next volume. And, oh yeah - the artwork is gorgeous!Highly recommended, even for the not-usually-fans of comic books.
